Settings and Props

The setting of our music video is important to consider as the setting in a music video often symbolises the theme and message of the music video so it is important to consider the setting we want in our music video. 

 

Props is also important to consider as the props also symbolises the theme of our music video. Using props such as flowers may create the theme of love whereas a dead decaying flower may create the theme of broken love and heartbreak. 

 

When deciding where to film we wanted there to be a natural setting in which the audience may feel connected to. A setting like a park will create a real life element to the music video as most people will meet there partners in a park. This also grounds our characters in reality as the setting of a park is not diffucult to go to for most people. We decided to film in the afternoon as the afternoon is considered to be the time when most couples will often see each other. This is because the afternoon is considered the time in which there are more activities to do and places to go. Also afternoon has the most romantic feel to it.  

 

We decided to also film in a house as a house is often the ideal setting in which to show the theme of love as couples are likely to be more comfortable in the security of their homes. A house successfully shows a couple as it may have props such as a couch in which the couple may be sitting closely together. A couch shows the comfort that the couple may have with each other as they may be cuddling again showing the love between them. A house not only may show the theme of love but it may also show the theme of betrayal and the effects of it. As our music video is about betrayal we wanted there to be a big house in which the artist is shown to be alone in. This presents loneliness and creates empathy from the audience for the artist as he is alone in such a big house. We wanted to have props that showed wealth in order to again show how wealth may not result in happiness. We used watches and chains to show wealth as well as the big house. This created the message that wealth may not be enough in ensuring happiness.  

 

The settings and props were carefully considered after researching other music videos in our genre. From our research we saw that the setting were often in places associated with romanticism, so places like restaurants and parks. Props in our genre were often signifiers of wealth such as watches and chains. Props and settings were both important to consider for our music video as they both symbolise the theme of our music video.
