Mickey Singh- Bad Girl Analysis

This music video is concept based. The whole music video is set in a studio with white backgrounds. Unlike many music videos in the Hindi R&B genre it is different in that it is a concept based music video . Many of the music videos in its genre uses narrative based music videos. This can be argued is its unique selling point as it doesnt use a narrative in its music video. The white background is used in order to focus all of the audiences attention on the lead artist and the characters as it provides a contrast in colours as they are often wearing black which means the audience will put more of their attention on the characters than the background. This is different from a narrative based music videos as there is a huge emphasis on setting and background in narrative based music videos as settings are used in narrative based music videos to set a mood or feeling. As this is a concept based music video the emphasis on setting is less important.

This music video includes typical conventions of R&B Music videos in that it portrays women as being sexual objects of desire for its target audience. This is shown by the costume that they wear as shown by the screenshot. They are wearing tight leotards in order to show the womens body. This type of clothing presents the women as being sexually appeasible to the target audience.
There is often scenes in which the camera follows the womens movement which reinforces Laura mulvey's Male gaze theory which represents the audiences eye following the movement of the women.
They are also shown holding small weights in their hands. The directors put this in as it represents the women as being weak in order to meet the expectation of women being physcially inferior to men in order to appease their audience.

This music video also includes conventions of Indian music video. In most Indian music videos they use dancing to appeal to their audience. This is the same for this R&B indian music video as the lead artist is shown to be dancing with the other characters in the music video. They have included this as they want to appeal to viewers of both R&B and Indian music videos in order to get a higher amount of people to watch the music video. Also the target audience of Indian music videos expect to see dancing so the director wanted to meet this expectation so included dancing scenes.

Throughout the music video the male characters are shown to be wearing costumes associated with wealth. The male lead is often wearing either a lavish suit or an expensive shirt which represent the character as being wealthy. The secondary male character is also often wearing a lavish suit. This builds the characters image and also shows the social power of these individuals.
